About Us

Üna Lodge, which was completed in Autumn 2017, originally started life as La Gringalette, a tiny chalet built into the hillside. The owners Camilla and Tom, who have been Verbier residents for seven years, saw the potential in this tiny chalet and its perfect location as the ideal opportunity to create their dream home and business in the heart of the Swiss Alps, and so began the creation of Üna Lodge.

“We couldn’t believe our luck when we came across a property with such a fantastic location. We wanted to share that with others” says Tom Waddington, owner of Üna Lodge and director of New Generation Ski school.

After finally having the plans approved, construction started in May 2016 and in just over one year, La Gringalette was transformed into the stunning Üna Lodge. Camilla who runs the lodge day-today has dualSwiss and English nationality with half her family originating from Lausanne. She and Tom have been together since meeting in Verbier seven years ago, having been brought together through their love of the mountains and passion for skiing, and are both thrilled to have realised their dream of running a gotgeous hotel together in such an incredible location.

We strongly believe in looking after this beautiful world we live in, which is why Üna lodge has been designed to have minimal impact on the environment. Verbier's History

Verbiers’ potential as a ski resort was discovered in 1925 when a group of keen mountaineers hiked up 15km from Sembrancher for the sole purpose of skiing back down again. At this time the village was inhabited by cows and a couple of herdsmen. After the war a study conducted by the Swiss government concluded that Verbier was in an ideal location for a ski resort and in 1946 the first lift system was installed. However, it was the ski boom in the 1960s that helped transform this small farming village into one of the leading resorts in the Alps. Verbier now hosts the annual Extreme Free Ride competition and is one of the world’s most renowned resorts for the fun it offers both on and off the slopes!

In summer you can visit the ruins of Verbier castle which once stood overlooking the area of Val des Bagnes. The castle is believed to have been built in the 12th century by the Count of Savoy and was destroyed in 1475 after the battle of La Planta. Well worth a visit to appreciate the history of Verbier in the medieval era and admire its spectacular vantage point.
